Language Arts
:

1st grade

We learned about connections. We read the book The Graphic Alphabet. We looked at the pictures and tried to figure out what word the picture was describing.

Can you tell these are Noodles?

2nd grade:
We worked with connections that were already paired up and we had to put them in categories. We then discussed what generalizations we could make about each of the categories.

3rd grade:
We were introduced to interactions in our beginning lesson. We learned how they can be positive or negative. We played a game like charades to act out our interactions. Unfortunately, Mrs.Pierce forgot to take pictures of us! She got too carried away with the fun we were having.

4th grade:
We have started brainstorming about change this week. We discussed these generalizations about change:
-positive or negative
-is everywhere
-can be random or planned
- can be due to nature, or man made.

Word Nerd Alert:

This weeks challenge is:
Using a dictionary, figure out what this sentence means.

I heartily guffawed at the farcical antics of the jester.

1st grade: We met Imi and Zani and learned about a mysterious box that was delivered to our classroom. The kids thought there might be a snake or a spider in the box since it came from the Amazon Rain Forest. They learned about speaker roles and listener roles.

2nd grade: We reviewed speaker roles and listener roles and how we will be working together as a group to learn more about math. We talked about writing in math and how it helps us strengthen our understanding of concepts.

3rd grade: We started our lesson on The Name Game. We introduced looking for patterns with numbers after we reviewed AB and ABC patterns.

4th grade:
We started working with fraction strips, we are using them to measure one whole and then a half, thirds, fourths, fifths, and so on. The lesson was introduced by a story about Tori and Jordan finding old fabric strips to measure fabric in an old general store. The kids had fun discovering how many times to fold the paper to make fourths, and eighths. We will use these strips in future lessons as well.

This week's challenge is:

How many sides does a HEXAGON have?

Happy Birthday wishes to:
Lauren K.(4th grade) 9/13
Stella S. (2nd grade) 9/16
I hope you have amazing birthdays!

The weather is supposed to be amazing this weekend! I hope everyone can get out and enjoy the last few weeks of summer.
