Happy Thanksgiving!!!

This week is all about giving. All the grades wrote letters to soldiers thanking them for all their hard work and dedication. We also played some fun Thanksgiving themed games.

Language Arts:

First Grade:

This week it is all about giving so we wrote letters to soldiers to send so they had Holiday warm wishes while they are on duty. We didn't have time to get to all that we had planned.

Next week we will continue with connections. Students will have to make connections between words and figure out what the new word is with the clues provided.

Second Grade:

On Monday we wrote letters to the soldiers. On Tuesday we finished up our letters and completed our Thankful ABC’s sheet where we wrote what we are thankful for.

Next week we will write in our reader’s journal about Edward, and continue reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Third Grade:

On Monday they wrote their letters to the soldiers thanking them for everything they do.

We also played a game: Would You Rather…. It had funny and interesting Thanksgiving themed things. They loved it. One asked them if they would rather wash their hair with mashed potatoes or bathe in gravy.

We all couldn’t stop laughing. One also asked them if they would rather eat turkey for every meal for a week or dress up like a pilgrim for school every day for a week. It was split on which they would choose.

One Tuesday we played the Thanksgiving: I Have…… Who Has? Game. It was so much fun and the kids really like figuring out what cards they had.

We also wrote about what their favorite Thanksgiving tradition is. They should have these with them to talk about with their family. Next week we will continue working on genres of writing and parts of speech. We will also go back and touch on change.

Fourth Grade:

This week we took a break from our biography projects to write letters to the soldiers thanking them for all they do. We also completed the Thanksgiving Challenge.

The students were divided into pairs and they worked using their knowledge and the lap tops to answer questions, find words in a word search and so on. I think they enjoyed the break from the biographies.

We also played Would You Rather…. It had funny and interesting Thanksgiving themed things. They loved it. One question was would you rather eat Thanksgiving with your family or three celebrities.

One also asked would you rather lead the Thanksgiving Day Parade or eat dinner at the White House. They enjoyed debating why they would do each. It was fun.

Next week we will get back to our biographies. Make sure to ask your children about who they have decided to complete their project on.

They students will also have to figure out a way to present the information to us. They can also dress up like their person. They can be as creative as they want.
They will work on the timeline in class and can complete parts at home if needed.  The students will research it online and through books, they will learn about credible sources, they will learn to complete a timeline, and they will learn to create a prezi.(check out what a prezi is at this website: https://prezi.com/).

      Math:

Since we only had one day we completed fun Thanksgiving word problems. We also colored a turkey and wrote things we are thankful for. We played Addition Gobble Bump.

Second Grade:

This week we played a fun thanksgiving money game and we had fun writing about our favorite thanksgiving tradition.

On Wednesday we completed the next tests in Sweet Multiplication. We had some excellent results. This week we only had one day so we played the Thanksgiving: I Have…… Who Has? Game. We also played Fractions of a turkey feather sheet. It was so much fun and the kids really like figuring out the fractions. Next week more on fractions and we will keep working on multiplication.

Fourth Grade:

This week since we only had one day we worked on a logic puzzle about thanksgiving.

We also played the Thanksgiving: I Have…… Who Has? Game. It was so much fun and the kids really like figuring out what cards they had and how they fit into the game.

Next week more on logic puzzles.

Have a Great Thanksgiving Break!
