Hello Brummitt Families!
Blog Spot:
I'll inform you through an email to let you know when it's up! You can access the blog from a link at the bottom of my emails OR through Brummitt's homepage under classrooms.
Weekly Schedule:
I'm working my hardest to get the classroom set up and ready to go. I hope to start classes next week. I will let you know. Since I'm servicing both schools, I'll see Liberty students on Mondays and Tuesdays and Brummitt students on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We'll alternate a week at a time at each school per subject. One week will be two days of language arts and the following will be two days of math. I'm always willing to be flexible should we need to change things up, if they're not working. The posting for this position will remain open. Meanwhile, I'm excited to work with the AWESOME children from Brummitt! I'm familiar with several of them from this past HA Summer School program. It's going to be great!I graduated from Ball State University where I earned my undergrad degree (K-6). Later, I received my Masters Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. I went back to earn my High Ability Licensure from Ball State University. I have fifteen years teaching experience at the elementary level. I have twelve years as a classroom teacher: first, second, third, fifth and sixth grade. This will be my fourth year as a High Ability Specialist at Liberty and sixth year with the program.
I'm a hometown girl, born and raised in Chesterton. I'm married to another Chesterton grad and we have a son who is now a fifth grader. I began my teaching career in Lake Station where I taught for five years before returning home to teach at Liberty Elementary School and coach volleyball at Chesterton High School. I taught many years at LES before taking a break from teaching to be a stay-at-home mom. I eased back into the working world as a part time High Ability Instructor at Yost for two years before returning to Liberty Elementary as the High Ability Specialist. This will be my sixth year with the High Ability program and I absolutely love it!!!! My colleagues and I continue to make great strides in gifted education!
Our family keeps busy balancing academics, baseball and family time. We love to spend time grilling out on our deck with our dog, Dozer. He's a South African Mastiff called a Boerboel. He just turned two in April and weighs just under 200 pounds. Yikes! Funny story about that . . . the ramp we trained him on to get in and out of the car???? Well, he no longer wants to go up and now he doesn't know how to jump in. It makes for interesting car trips to say the least.
We're Gonna Rock It!
The weather cooperated for me this past Monday! I took advantage of the beautiful weather and took a walk on the beach to find a rock for every student. I'll write each student's name on one and that's what they will use to check in when they enter our classroom. I did the same for my current Liberty students, but theirs I searched for during my annual summer walk. Thank goodness the weather was not a typical fall day.
I'm here if you have further questions. Please reach out if you'd like!
