DONATIONS NEEDED: If you have an empty cardboard tissue box or small milk carton, I would love to have it. We need it for an upcoming math lesson. Thanks in advance!
We worked on writing paragraphs for what we wanted to put in our word clouds. The students were to bring them home to have them typed up except for 2 students who told me they could not type them up at home. I will get those students taken care of this weekend, We also broke into small groups and are working on several end of novel projects. Students got to choose from making a timeline of events, writing a song about his journey, making clothing for Edward and describing his character traits and which other character he was with while wearing that clothing. The last option is to research constellations that Edward may have seen in his travels, and tell a bit about each one. We are excited that next week we will be starting a new novel, The Indian in the Cupboard.
We will be making connections with this book and the novel we read previously.
We attempted our bubble shapes activity again this week...and had success! This was amazing for the kids to see the bubbles of the shapes inside the shape as well as making bubbles in the faces of the shapes as well. The pictures do not do it justice.
Third grade- Spark problem solving
Problem Based Learning Project (PBL) called SPARK. They were split into groups of four to generate ideas of how to build a community between our kindergarten students and fourth graders. Each group had a scribe to take notes. The kids struggled at first to think of ideas. Eventually they got started brainstorming great ideas, like helping the kindergarteners by being their reading buddies, where they would help foster an early love for books! We will continue next week, I cannot wait to see more great ideas!Third grade math- Think and Beyond
Students did a nice job working in small groups to solve the Think and Beyond cards. The kids learned a lot about the patterns made on a hundreds chart. They explored adding numbers together like 53 and adding 5+3=8. They had to make a list of two digit numbers that when added together, equaled 8. Then they had to find three digit numbers that equaled 8. They enjoyed this challenge. We will begin exploring math puzzles. Fourth grade- monologues
Due to illness and such, I gave the group another full week to complete their monologues. Prezi's will be created this upcoming week with presentations beginning on Monday, Feb 26th.
Fourth grade math- Think and Beyond
We reviewed finding fractions on a timeline by playing a short game of Kahoot before we started our Think and Beyond activities. We practiced comparing fractions by finding common denominators, numerators and we used benchmarks. Next week we will start a new lesson exploring equivalent fractions using area models.
Olympic Trivia
How many Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals have been achieved so far for Team USA?
Have a great weekend! Remember, NO SCHOOL on Monday due to President's Day.
