The first week of High Ability is complete and we had lots of fun and so much to talk about. The kids were very eager to share all the great things they did over the summer. They also told me all about their adventures and even the great books they read. I let them know all about me and everything I did over the summer. I am so glad to be back here at Brummitt with so many familiar faces. We even have some new ones mixed in. Since we had Labor Day off I only got to see the Language Arts students on Tuesday. I met with the Math students on Wednesday and Thursday.
We also went over some of the rules and procedures for the classroom. I let the students know what is expected of them when they enter the high ability class.
I want the students to know how important their time is here in high ability so we need to make the most out of every minute.
I also brought back some favorites for the students like the Idiom of the week and Math Vocabulary Comic Relief. I also will continue the Life skills each week and the students will have the chance to recognize each other when they display a life skill.
I sent out a test email to most of the parents last week and I am glad to say I didn’t get any returned which lets me know that everyone got it. I will send out a weekly email to let you know once the blog is up for the week. I will also use email to announce any other important information about High Ability throughout the year.
Next week, we will start the regular schedule of Language Arts on Monday and Tuesday and Math on Wednesday and Thursday. This year we will dive right into the curriculum for Language Arts. For first grade I sent home an activity that needs to be completed for Monday September 12th. This will help the students take their time completing their patches. It also allows the students to keep it a secret from the other students while they work on them. We will assemble them in class and the students will give presentations on their creations. I can’t wait to see what they designed and wrote about. This year in first and second grade the material will be all about connections. For third and fourth grade is it all about change. I look forward to all the activities and reading we will do this year in language arts.
For Math in all grades the students will be completing a pre-assessment to see what they already know about the material we will be using this year. We have a new curriculum and it is all about measurement and everything that entails.
Each grade level will have an exciting adventure they will embark on to learn about every aspect in measurement. The assessments should not take more than one week. After that we will start our adventures. I can’t wait to see all the cool experiments and activities this program has planned. I am sure the students will love it.
I look forward to another great and educational year in High Ability. I am so glad you allow me the opportunity to teach your children.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Lutterman
