Welcome Summer! Goodbye 2014-2015 School Year!

This is my last post for the year and I am really sad that the year is over. I have loved getting the honor of teaching your children in high ability. They are all such great students and they are always so excited to come to class to learn and explore. I have had such a great year teaching them all. I will miss them and all they have offered in class. They all work so hard each week to learn the material and concepts. They are a great bunch of kids and always fun to be around.
Thank you for the honor and opportunity to work with your children each week, I will truly miss them. Now on to all that has happened. I wish all my students an excellent summer full of adventure and learning. Go see all there is out there to learn.

I also sent each student home with a little summer survival kit. I hope they like them.

The students worked really hard this last week to complete their movie trailers. They are all posted on the last blog for your viewing pleasure. I am so proud of how hard they worked to create something original. The older students designed the concepts and executed each step on their own. They did such a great job working in teams. I am really proud of all their hard work. I hope you like them.
This week at Brummitt our fourth graders got to compete in the annual field and track meet with the other schools in the district, they did an excellent job. They had so much fun and enjoyed getting to compete and see others compete too.
I drew names for the last Life Skills drawing and here are our winners. I am so proud of all the nice things the students wrote about each other. I gave the students back all the slips so they can see how much they love and respect each other. Great Job Students for caring so much!

Language Arts:

Kindergarten:

This week was all about fun we had a great time playing on the I-Pads. We also had a fun snack and took some pictures. They will be able to use the Sumdog website this summer at home if they want to have some educational fun. These students did such a great job learning about connections and relating them back to their own lives. I love their enthusiasm to want them to share and understand emotions and connections.

First Grade:

This week we finished up with Hieroglyphs. They finally got to take home their hieroglyph creations. We also got to have fun playing on the I-Pads. I will miss all the fun adventures we have had learning about Egypt and all the ways to decipher secret messages. I know they will use the decoders I sent home to create new secret messages. They are such great kids and students and they are always so excited to learn anything new.

Second Grade:

Our last week was all about fun. We finished up The Great Mouse Detective and we played some educational games on the I-Pads. I will miss getting to read all the great books and talk about each character and how they impacted the story. Ben was a great trooper this year. He had so much fun learning about each character in every story and how they could change how we understand the book. He also did a great job learning about change and connections.

Third Grade:

Our last week was all about finishing up the awesome movie trailer and having fun while doing it. They had a blast figuring out what they wanted to do and they even brought in some awesome costumes to use for the video. I will miss our afternoons together learning about different genres of literature and how the students interpret it. They are great students who work really hard to understand each lesson.

Fourth Grade:

This week we only got to meet once because of the track and field meets, but when we did we had a blast. Some groups had to finish up their movie trailer, but they got it all completed in time. I really enjoyed these fourth graders and everything they brought to the table each week. They worked really hard this year to learn about people in the world and how they help change and develop it.

The Biographies they created were so awesome and you could see how much they researched and learned about their person and how that person impacted the world and history. I will miss them and all the great conversations about change and their lives. They are a great bunch of kids and I wish them luck next year in all their endeavors at their new schools.

Math:

Kindergarten:

This week we did something special since it was our last week. I checked out the I-Pads and the students each got to play Sumdog as their own character. They had a blast. They loved it. I logged them each on before they got to class to make it easier. I think they really like being able to play with each other. I set it up so they could just play against other classmates if they wanted. They did a great job.
On Thursday we even had time to have a fun treat. These students were so much fun to teach. Even though I only got to meet with them for part of the year, I enjoyed teaching them about new math concepts. They are great students and they are Great Math Gurus. They have a great math future ahead of them.

First Grade:

This week was our last week and we wanted to finish with a bang so we competed on Sumdog.com. It was so much fun to see all she has learned throughout the year. She has learned so much about math and math facts. I will miss getting to teach her new math facts and challenge her each week to learn a new concept.

Second Grade:

This week we continued with Sumdog.com on the I-Pads. We only got to meet once because they had an exciting field trip planned for Thursday to Fair Oaks Farm. We had a blast using the I-Pads one last time. These students were always fun and worked hard each week to learn the new math concepts. They were great puzzler solvers. They loved any great math puzzle and won't rest until they figured it out. I will miss how they can always make me laugh even on our last day taking the last pictures.

Third Grade:

This was our last week and we had fun playing on the I-Pads. They loved playing Sumdog and challenging each other. They also got to enjoy the ice cream on Thursday as a reward for everyone completing the sweet multiplication challenge. We held the Life Skills sheets drawing and we had some great winners. I think the students had a great time this week.  I will miss this group so much because they were my last group each day and always made it a great end to the day with laughter and learning.

They were always so excited to come to class and learn a new concept in math. They had such a great year learning and teaching each other. They even taught me a few things about life. They are great students who work hard when they need to challenge their math minds to go further. I wish them the best for all the math they have in their future because I know they will rock each challenge they get.

Fourth Grade:

This was our last week and we only got to meet on Thursday because of the boy's track and field meet. I decided we needed to have fun and enjoy our last class with awards for the Life Skills and a sweet treat while we watched the movie trailers the students created.
They worked really hard in independent groups to create a fun and innovative movie trailer. I gave all creative control to them and they did a great job from beginning to end.
They created a concept and executed it very well. They worked so hard as a team to create something original. I will miss this great bunch of hard working math students. They challenged me but made it all very fun. They will have so much fun next year when they move on to their next endeavor. I wish them all the best as they continue to grow into excellent students.

Have a Great Summer!
I will miss you all!
Good Luck in all you do and have fun continuing on your educational road ahead of you!
Mrs. Lutterman
