There was so much going on this week here at Brummitt. We had the author Kate Klise came to visit, lots of field trips, and the middle school band, choir and orchestra came to visit. This week was also my last week with students as we have completed another year in high ability. This will be the last post for the year. I am really sad the year is over, but glad the summer weather is finally here. I have loved having the honor of teaching your children for another year. They are great kids and excellent students who take the time to put in the effort needed to succeed. I am always happy to see their smiling faces and they are always so excited to come to class to learn and have a great time. I will miss all of them and miss all the fun and laughs we had this year. They make coming to school everyday worth it. I had such a great year teaching them all. They always make class so entertaining and make my job the best in the world. They are the reason I love teaching high ability.
Each student got to pick out a scholastic book to take home this week. I wanted to give them each something they wanted and would want to read this summer.
I will be in and out of the building these next two weeks getting everything done before school ends.
I just want to say thank you for the opportunity and honor to work each week with your children and give them the inspiration to be all they can be. I will truly miss each of them and all they offer to the day. I want to wish all the students to have a great summer and make sure to have an adventure even if it is one inside a great book or something created in your own backyard. I will want to hear all about it this fall.
There were more great activities this week to celebrate the book The Show Must Go On!! The students even got to meet the author Kate Klise when she visited this week. She gave the students so much inspiration to want to write. I was even inspired to write. She did a great job with every grade and the students loved the opportunity to learn from her. They were on the edge of their seats the entire time she talked and were so excited to write with her.

This week we continued learning about our Life Skills with Friendship. This week I thought this life skill was perfect to end the year, because the students do such a great job to be friends with all their classmates and make sure to include them in everything we do. They take the time to make sure that everyone has a partner before I ever have to say a word. They take the time to ask others how they are doing and feeling. They are happy to be great team players and friends to each other. The friendships they build now can last a lifetime and I know that they all know how to be great friends. Idiom of the Week
An Idiom is an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements. This week’s was ….Don’t bury your head in the sand. The picture for this one goes with summer for sure, but the meaning is very important for students to learn. The students really need to learn to take things head on and not ignore them or put them off. Students need to make sure they don’t ignore the things that make them uncomfortable and face them to overcome them. I think the students here at Brummitt are learning this lesson everyday. They make sure to complete their work and do their best. They take the path that isn’t the easiest but the best for them to succeed.Language Arts
Kindergarten:
This week we completed our first IMovie Trailer, but before we could begin we had a class discussion about connections. We talked about what connections we might make with our video. Then it was time for him to choose. This was very exciting because as a kindergartner I wouldn’t have guessed he would want to complete the scary one, but he did. It was very cool to have him create what the video would be about and what we needed to complete it. He made connections about what he wanted to do for this video and why he thought it would be very cool. I agreed with his reasoning and we were off to create something that would be the best. It took a lot of hard work, but we got it completed. Make sure to look for it on the Movie Trailers Page or click this link: Movie Trailers
It has been a great year in kindergarten even if it was only a short time we got to meet. I look forward to all we have to learn next year.
First Grade:
This week we worked on finishing the movie trailer. The students are so excited to share their video with their families. They did such a great job. They worked hard to do their best and have fun. Make sure to look for it on the Movie Trailers Page or click this link: Movie Trailers
The students chose a trailer that would incorporate what they studied this year. It is a great effort by some great kids. I really enjoyed working with them this year and they all did such a great job all year to do their best and try their hardest.

Second Grade:
This week we continued the activity on the candy and connections. The students got to finish their ads and share them with the class. They all did an excellent job talking about their creations and why they created them. We also got to finish up our movie trailer. They did a great job and came up with a concept together. I am proud at all their hard work. Make sure to look for it on the Movie Trailers Page or click this link: Movie Trailers
Third Grade:
This week the students got the opportunity to finish their first movie trailer and create their second. They did a great job working together to make decisions and do their best. They had a great year working on the different genres and wanted to show different aspects of that through their videos. It may be hard to figure out but they put hints in them. I am so proud of each and everyone of them this year. They learned so much about literature and how each genre is unique. I hope they came home each week excited to talk about what they learned and wanted to read more about each one. Please make sure to look at the webpage with all videos they are so excited to share them.
Fourth Grade:
This week we didn’t really get to meet for very long either day because of all the things they needed to finish up. On Monday they had some NWEA testing so we only got to meet part of the time as they finished. I had them watch the movie of The Westing Game. They were so thrilled to figure out all the differences between the two. On Tuesday they had a presentation and we didn’t get to meet. I did get to see them to take a few last minutes pictures and to give them their end of the school year presents. Each student got to pick out a book from Scholastic. I hope they will take these books to read over the summer. I will miss all these students next year and I hope they really enjoy their summers.

Math
Kindergarten:
This week we completed our IMovie trailer. The students were so happy to get to complete this one and have some fun. They were so cute and did a great job listening: so great I got it done in the shortest time ever. I am so proud of how well they have done in such a little amount of time. They figured out graphing and were so excited each day to go out and ask people around the school what they liked and charted it quickly. I had so much fun with them. They are great students and I look forward to working with them next year. Make sure to look for it on the Movie Trailers Page or click this link: Movie Trailers

This week the students completed their IMovie trailer and they were so happy with the results. They had a blast dressing up in the costumes and completing the concept. I hope that all the parents and family like it because I know that they loved creating it. Make sure to look for it on the Movie Trailers Page or click this link: Movie Trailers
I will miss this group all summer. They are so much fun each week. They are always so eager to learn new math concepts and vocabulary. They were so excited each week to see what we would be doing next. I love how happy they were each day to see me and learn. I will miss all their smiling faces this summer. Check out the pictures above for first.
Second Grade:
Third and Fourth Grade: Math Vocabulary Comic Relief
This was our last one of the year and it was Equilateral Triangle. In geometry, an equilateral triangle is a triangle in which all three sides are equal. In the familiar Euclidean geometry, equilateral triangles are also equiangular; that is, all three internal angles are also congruent to each other and are each 60°
The students did an excellent job on this one and all got it right first thing. I am so proud of how well they have done with all of these this year. Great Job.
Third Grade:
This week we created an awesome IMovie trailer about our favorite mystery: The Yeti. We searched high and low to find him and when we did you will be shocked at what he looks like now. This year we had so much fun incorporating The Yeti into all we learned in Math. It made the time fly by and gave us so much to talk and think about while we learned each Math concept. This was an exciting year and I think we dug deep into area and perimeter and all the math concepts we studied. I look forward to what we will learn next year. Make sure to look for it on the Movie Trailers Page or click this link: Movie Trailers
Fourth Grade:
This week the students got to complete their IMovie trailers on their own. They came up with the concepts and shot most of the video on their own. I helped when they needed me to shoot the whole group in certain scenes. I think they had a blast doing this and getting a chance to be creative. I will be posting them this week. I am so proud of how hard they worked this year and so glad they were in my class. I will miss them next year and hope they have a great time in fifth grade.
Have a Great Summer!!
See you in the fall!!
